OK, can you check the jumper position on the rear of the drive then please. It should look like this :

Place the drive the right way up (so label is on the top) & look at the jumper pins. You should see this :

2 4 6 8

o o o o
1 3 5 7

Place the jumper cap over pins 1+2

Make sure when you connect the ribbon cable to the drive, the striped edge of the cable is next to these jumper pins. Likewise, when connecting the cable to the motherboard port, the striped edge must be at the end marked '1'.

The end connector on the cable which is furthest away from the middle connector, must be the one connected to the motherboard (this connector is usually blue, or at least a different colour that the other two connectors).

When yoo connect up the drive & go into the bios, set all 4 of the IDE positions to AUTO, not just the Primary Master.

hi, tried what you said but it still doesnt want to detect it do you thinks its beacause its corrupt.


hi i was looking at the bios on the net and underneath the download it said that it would fix disks that wernt being detected but im not sure on how to upgrade it i tried with floppy but it wouldnt boot from it.

You probably need to change the boot sequence in the bios. Go into the bios & select the page called 'Advanced bios features' On this page you will see 'First boot device', 'second boot device' etc. Make sure the first boot device is set to floppy.

Save changes & exit.

hi i tried that earlier it was just i didt know how to update the bios ad know i do it doesnt seem to want to work. this is what i did

Updating BIOS Procedures

Create a bootable system floppy disk.
Download an updated ASRock BIOS file (WinZip format with .zip file extension) from the web site, unzip the BIOS file and save both ASRFLASH.EXE utility and BIOS file to the disk you created in step 1.
Boot from the disk you created in step 2.
At the "A:\" prompt, type ASRFLASH, hit space bar once, and type BIOS file name then press <Enter>. For example: A:\ASRFLASH K7S41GX2.00 <Enter> then you will see a message "Please wait for BIOS loading ROM".
After 30 seconds, you will see the message "Flash ROM Update Completed - Pass", then you have finished upgrading the BIOS.
After finishing upgrading the BIOS, please remove the floppy disk. Restart your system and press <F2> to enter the BIOS setup utility during boot up.
In Exit menu, please select "Load Default Settings" and press <Enter> to continue.
Select "Exit Saving Changes" and press <Enter> to exit the BIOS setup utility.
Now, system is booting up with new BIOS.

but i have (awdflash v4mdmpa9 )on my floppy, i can get it to boot from floppy but when i do this procedure it just says its not recognised

also when i do DIR on the floppy aload of things come up which are not even on the floppy.

ok i got it goin i put it onto cd and it loaded off there but when it asked do i want to save the bios i said no and it says source file not found

OK, before we go any further, please tell me whether your motherboard is JETWAY (as you originally indicated) or ASROCK?

its a jetway v4mdmp this is the procedure for it

1. Download Awdflash.exe file and the correct bios file for your board from our website. The model number printed on your board should match the Product Name exactly!!!

2. Run Awdflash.exe file. To download the file, click here.

3. When the screen shows prompt: File to Program: type the bios file name you downloaded (with the drive name and path).

4. When it asks: Do you want to Save Bios? (Y/N), select NO.

5. When it asks: Are you sure to program? (Y/N), select " YES "

6. Follow the instructions at the bottom of the screen to update the bios.
(NO STAND BY VOLTAGE FROM ATX POWER SUPPLY)

7. If the update is done successfully, the screen will ask you to power down. Power down as the screen says.

8. Power on, press <Del> key to go into "CMOS SETUP UTILITY"

9. Load setup defaults, save and exit setup.

10. Your bios is now updated.

i got it to boot from floppy but it gets near to the end of the updating the bios and says remove floppy

If it says to remove the floppy, this suggests that the bios update has completed. How do you know it hasn't?

BTW, for future reference, I don't know why it says to say no to saving the bios. Normally you should always say yes to this in case the update goes wrong!
