WEll guys I'm having the exact same problem but like a fool didn't search forums for my exact problem...

I keep getting disconnected with a buffalo NIC, and am using the updated drivers but not the buffalo supplied software. I've tried with and it doesn't help.

I get this error constantly in event viewer:

Several per second. A wireshark capture usually shows EAPOL authentication keys being sent several times per second from router to nic, or vise versa I forget.

Another time in wireshark, I noticed alot of DNS lookups going to and from my router (which is an ACTIONTEC 701wg) while having the same "disconnected" problem.

A reset of the router always solves the issue, but coming home from school the next day I find it has dropped connection overnight... sigh.

3pcs are on wired router, 2pcs are on wireless router (but going via ethernet) and I have 2 wireless laptops (yeah I know..."WHY!!!???"...).
Oh, DHCP is enabled on wired router but DISABLED on wireless (getting range from wired router.)

ANYWAY!
All wired pc's access tinterweb fine (my pc says "hi") but the two laptops keep losing connection every 5-10 mins.
One is a runing Vista and the other is XP native (no sevice packs or upgrades...it would die it was asked to perform better...).
Did buy wireless g pcmcia adapter for WinXP laptop but made no diference.

Just wondering if this thread was still going or if we all shrugged our shoulders and "pretended" the problem never existed?

After read lot of fourms, make ton of tests, ask to "SATs", I almost surrender and got a consequence: There are incompatibilities between some rounters and some wireless card chipsets. The Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 LAN 3A Mini-PCI Adapter seems to have lot of problems and compatibility issues with many routers. In my case, this wroks perfectly with a 3Com, but doesn't work with a Livebox. With Livebox adquiered recntyl from Orange ADSL provider, I started to suffer all the intermitent disconection problem described in this forum, and I applied all the workarounds proposed, but the variable behaviour is just making me crazy, so I think that the only solution is to buy other wireless card, because the INTEL one doesn't work!
The router? Well, I have 2 laptops more and 2 Nintendo DS connecting without any issue, so looks clear...

I surrendered even more when I found this:
"you need to check out the wireless card that you have is using whether it is 802.11b or 802.11g. Intel Pro Wireless 2100 means that it is 802.11b while Intel Pro Wireless 2200 means that it is 802.11g. 802.11g is the newer type of card which have a higher speed than 802.11b. so chk ur laptop to see wat type or wireless card they are using. if everyone is using 802.11g , then u just have to get a wireless broadband router which supports 802.11g. However, if some of you' re using 802.11b, then u might consider getting a wireless router which can support 802.11b and 802.11g"

I have no idea about 802.11, do you? Can thses the origin of our problems then? If my router is 11g and my Intel 2100 is 11b, can that produce the problems? Is there anything we can do for make them more compatible?
Any idea before throw the Intell adapter away is welcome.

I don't think that's the case as the wireless router I have (SMCWBR14T-G) supports all modes (including "S" mode). The Asus Lamborghini VX1 also supports all modes (one of the laptops) and the other two (have tried my older laptop, Sony VAIO with b/g wireless) do the same thing. Looking also at my above previous post, I bought a new wireless PCMCIA card which is b/g and not an intel.

Don't go buying new components just yet...already went down that route and it failed.
So...what I have now is FOUR laptops with wireless doing all the same thing. Two Sony VAIO's, a Samsung and an ASUS...

Just a note...have set (for a giggle) the router to use only g and the laptops to do the same. Same problem happens. Have then set them to use only b but again...la faile...
Currently set back to b/g mixed...

Any other thoughts folks?

I have a Dell 600m (XP Pro) using the Intel 2100 mini adapter and have the same disconnect issues. A few thoughts come to mind. I bought this laptop about 4 years ago or so and it worked fine with no disconnects until (or so it seemed) I updated the Intel driver (R105328.exe). When I tried to reverse to my old driver, I got a BSOD and was freaked for a moment that it wasn't going to come back at all. I'm pondering how to get the original driver back - perhaps I have a disk with those on it - will check on that. I looked on the Dell site, but only see the file mentioned above.

As one poster noticed, long downloads would be a sure fire way to get a disconnect. It had gotten to the point where I could not download anything. The other night, I downloaded a Firefox extension called DownThemAll and for the first time, could download files without a disconnect. Perhaps that bit of information will help someone figure this out.

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS

(I should also mention that my desktop uses a Linksys usb wireless network adapter and I have no disconnects with it - and it is much further away from the router than the laptop). This makes me suspect the Intel 2100 is the culprit or there is some conflict between it and the Linksys router.

I think its interesting that susie and the tech people have not replied to this thread in years. I was having this problem with my brothers computer. First thing I tried was the wireless zero config disable as mentioned. Instantly the connection seemed stable. Second thing I changed was the power setting as suggested by another user. Some very very awesome advice. Connection is steady and better than before. Thanks.

This message is to Ryan. Thank you for finding out. I was getting the dreaded BSOD at the start up when I bought a new router (Belkin G Router) and getting hit with the BSOD every time I started up. I didn't know why. I updated the driver and nothing worked. Only did I unplug the router, the computer would start up properly. (I too was getting connection problems with my old router which died this weekend RIP NetGear.) I thought it was because Intel stopped updating the driver in 2006 that the adapter was outdated and I would have to purchase a PCMCIA wireless adapter.

I had this exact same problem with the exact same wireless card: Intel pro/wireless 2100 3a in a Dell Latitude D800.

The problem isn't interference, it isnt the router. The problem has to do with the power settings for the wireless card itself.

To *attempt* to fix it:
1. Right click on "My Network Places" and hit properties.
2. Right click on your wireless connection icon and hit properties.
3. Under the "General" tab, click on the Configure button next to the device description (the button next to the box with the label "Connect Using:"
4. Click on the "Advanced" tab
5. Click on "Power Management" in the list box and then uncheck the "Use Default Value" box and set the slider to "highest".

You may need to update your drivers before you can get to these menus, to do that, go to the Intel website and search their support for drivers for the Intel Pro/Wireless 2100 series. They should only have a couple drivers to choose from.

Before changing these settings, I was always getting disconnected every 5 to 10 minutes (more often when the laptop was unplugged). The problem was effecting me on 4 different routers at different locations (work, school, home, friend's house). Since making this change, I havent gotten disconnected in 4 hours. Hope this helps.

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to let you know that the procedure in the quote in the message immediately preceding mine here helped somewhat with my problem of my Sony Laptop VGN FS770W continually dropping its wireless LAN connection.

However, it wasn't perfect, so I went to look for driver updates for the Intel PRO 2200BG wireless connector that is in the laptop.

First I went to Intel, but then saw a recommendation somewhere to go to your computer's manufacturer to look for specific updates.

I went to the Sony site and searched for updates for the drivers for the network connector in my computer and there is one there that mentions it remedies the problem of the dropped connections.

I downloaded and installed it, now to see how things go. It has not dropped the connection since I updated the driver, and ordinarily, by this point I would have had one or two drops.

Hope this helps someone else.

I have two new Acer 4730z laptop with Vista 32 bit. At th begining everything was fine. Then suddenly my laptop starts dropping wifi connection. It was connecting before the same network. The other laptop have no problem at all. It can connect any other public network. I have
Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter. I have reinstall vista with backup cd. I have tried by so many ways, with registry modify also. But no luck. Will you please help me in this matter.

The nature is like this-
Searching and showing available wifi networks.
If tried to connect any unsecured public network, gives Unsuccessful!!
If diagnose it says "Low signal strength"
at the same time the signal strength at Network Shareing Centre shows Fair or Good!!

I have a Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook with Intel® PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter, Win XP SP2, Intel 1.4 GHz processor with 750 MB RAM.

After a XP reinstall, this was an unresolved problem and I was going to replace the computer until I read these threads.

My problem got resolved by doing the following:

1) Assigned a name to the Computer
2) Increased the TCP ports to 100 (problem still persisted)
3) Uninstall Sygate Firewall
4) Started these services:
.Net Runtime Optimzation Service
Messenger
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM

Now the only service that is disabled is Clipbook.

The Wireless is working like a charm without any interruption.
