Hey,
My cd-rom drive on my laptop doesn't work. It doesn't show up in my computer.
Also when i check the boot list it says it has loaded. In bios it is enabled. However when i check in msinfo32 and click on the CD-ROM thing nothing shows up so i think it is not installed.
It is a IBM Laptop with removeable CD-rom and Floppy drives
The cd-rom drive is a TEAC CD-224E 24x internal IDE
Os is winXP

Thanks.

Thank you Very mutch!!!!!! However there is just one problem.
It says to "Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]".
What does it mean by that (UpperFilters and LowerFilters)? All i see when i got into the registry is :-
Name | Type | Data
[ab](Default) | REG_SZ | DVD/CD-ROM drives
[ab](Class) | REG_SZ | CDROM
[ab](EnumPropPages32) | REG_SZ | MmSys.Cpl,MediaPropPageProvider
[ab](Icon) | REG_SZ | -51
[ab](Installer32) | REG_SZ | storprop.dll,DvdClassInstaller
[ab](NoInstallClass) | REG_SZ | 1
[ab](SilentInstall) | REG_SZ | 1
[ab](TroubleShooter-0) | REG_SZ | hcp://help/tshoot/tsdrive.htm

Thats what i see under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

So what does it mean when it says Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters?

(One more note:: That you admin <_< )

You don't have Upper and Lower filter entries in your registry. Try this patch instead:

Okay, have you tried uninstalling the drive from the Device Manager? The hardware wizard should recognize it on the next reboot and reassign resources to this drive.

Also, have you recently installed any CD burning software. We've noticed a lot of problems lately because of having multiple programs installed. Usually, simply uninstalling all the burning software and then reinstalling one program will solve most issues.

Its not a cd-burnner and device manager doesn't even list it!! so i can't uninstall the drivers. Also the new hardware wizard doesn't find it it either.

My mistake, I should have reread the beginning of the post. Does your BIOS have an option to enable Plug & Play Operating System (PNP OS)? If so, try toggling this setting.

I'm beginning to think the drive's toast... <_<
