Java JFormattedText Help in NetBeans

I am doing an application for my last class in Computer Science and I decided to venture into Java and its free tools because the client (person) I am doing the app for doesn't has money to buy access or stuff like that. I have read Head First into Java and I am using as reference the book How to Program Java by Deitel but both books forget about JFormattedText field.

Although I have many problems and I regret my initial choice, what I want to do is make a JFormattedText to deal with a Social Security Number but I can't seem to be able to do it. I don't understand if I should be using an event or AbstractFormatter() or anything else. Nor I understand how to go about it.

Any help is appreciated, thanks for your time.

hi crazygerad,

here's the quick reply - go to the sun documentaion FIRST whenever you have a java question.

please look here for JFormattedTextField info:

opinions(probably not a good idea, but what the heck):
NEVER regret doing java
java is 'easy'(easier) if you work with c++ first
the best programming text I own is Deitel How to Program Java(3rd edition) - so my next 2 purchases will be
1. the latest Deitel How to Program Java
2. any Deitel c++ text

if you are still having problems with the code, please post the code you have thus far, and we will go from there.
