Despite using Ad-aware and Spybot daily, my computer has been nailed and nothing seems to heal it. If any of you kind doctors can help, to say I would most sincerely appreciate it would be an understatement. This is my last stop before paying the local computer shop to reinstall Windows--AGAIN!

Here's the scoop. AdAware finds win32.TrojanDownloader.agent.al among other things, but apparently can't fix it. Homepage is set and reset to about:blank, which I gather is the name of this insidious infection. Spybot turns up CoolWWWSearch.googlems and CoolWWWSearch.aff.winshow and despite using CW Shredder these keep reappearing.

Other tidbits--Frequent popups with "the best", lots of hits from scans of TIBS, on Yahoo mail, can't write anything in the main box when composing mail, My Docs opens by itself from time to time, get what looks like a Windows message on screen about malicious software but if you click yes and seek fix, it eventually takes me to an ad for Stopzilla.

I tried following the directions in a recent post about the about:blank infection (enabled hidden files, ran About Buster, CW Shredder, CleanUp, AdAware all in safe mode, ran HJT but didn't find any of the items mentioned). In addition, I have run AdAware (full scan and custom scan as per instructions on this site), Spybot, Norton 2005, SpySubtract with CW Shredder, TDS, but still have the nasty visitor.

What kind of people get such a kick out of inflicting misery on others they don't even know???

Any help genuinely appreciated!

This is a nasty About:Blank infection. This fix requires several tools that need to be downloaded. Please download these now, we will run them later.

1) About:Buster - Download it and extract it to C:/aboutbuster.
2) CleanUp! - Download it and install it.
3) CWShredder 2.11 - Download it and save it to your desktop.
4) Ad-Aware - Download, install, and update.

During the fix do NOT connect to the internet. Unless you can memorize these instructions, it would be a good idea to print them out.

Boot into safe mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Run AboutBuster
-Click Start to begin the process
-Click OK on the Buster Report dialogue box to start the scan
AboutBuster scans the computer for malicious files and deletes them.
Save the report (copy and paste into Notepad and save as a .txt file) to post a copy for review.

Run CWShredder
-Next, click on the: ‘Fix’ button
-Follow the prompts, and press OK

Run CleanUp
-Make sure it is on Standard Mode
-Click the "CleanUp!" button

Run Ad-Aware
-Configure Ad-Aware for a full system scan
-Run it

Clean Up the left overs

Run HJT, close any open windows, and fix the following items (if they are still there):

OK.. I ran Trojan Hunter. Afterwards, it keeps popping up a window telling me Trojans running in memory--Adware.CoolWebsearch.139 I hit clean but get same soon after.

Ran the CA scan and it found 1 file with Win32.Tibser.f and 36 files with Win32.winshow.ay

I will do the About Buster--CleanUp--Shredder--AdAware--HJT combo, though probably not till tomorrow. When you say to delete these files if they exist, can you tell me best way to do it and be sure they are gone?

Note: Make sure you have Set Windows to show Hidden Files & Folders before you Start deleting them. This can be done by looking at the instructions at This Webpage http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

To Delete These Files/Folders, You Will need to Boot into Safe Mode. This can be done by tapping F8 while your machine restarts.

then while in Safe Mode use your My Computer to navigate to the specified files. i.e. for C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcru32.dll you would:
Click on My Computer
click C: Local harddrive
look for and click on Windows folder
look for and click on System32 folder
then you would look for mrcru32.dll, right click on it and choose delete.
After you have done that for all of them empty your recycle bin.

I ran everything as instructed and deleted a couple of files that were still around. After rebooting, ran housecall scan and came up with 71 infected files, all of which were either trojan agent KT,ALE or ABR. Hit fix, ran it again and came up with -0- Then ran pandasoftware scan and came up with 11 infected files. Below is the report from About Buster, the updated HJT log, and the report from the pandasoft scan. Computer is running much, much better, but I'm guessing I'm not out of the woods yet. Thanks!!!

ok, looks like we need to get rid of those O15's the hard way. :mad:

in Internet explorer click on tools then choose internet options
next clik on the security tab
click on the word trusted sites then clik on the sites... button
find those two entries and click on the remove button hit apply then ok

Reboot and post a new hijack this log.

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Right click http://mvps.org/winh.../DelDomains.inf and select Save As to download WinHelp2002's DelDomains.inf. Please save the file somewhere you can find it like on the desktop. To run the inf file, right click on it and select Install.
