Thats about all of it. thats the new system im thinkin of building. i got the opty 165 cause of the 2X1mb
cache. and its insane overclocking capabilitys. :-( i dont know how to overclock but i want to get it to 2.5ghz stable.

Im thinkin of getting that X850xt cause i want to hang back and see waht else comes out while still playing fable the lost chapeters and black and white 2 on high settings.

I just wanted some input on this rig some pepole say its good others say i could do better with the ram...thats waht my freinds say.

But i feel pretty comfident with this website. knowlegeable pepole here.... k ill sit back and wait for your replys...they be good or bad i want to fine tweak every part of this rig even if i got to replace some parts from my list.

Thank you for your time i apreciate any input or help :-)

Get a sataII hard drive with a 16Mb cache(8Mb if youre stuck and its cheap) might think about getting a 6800GS or x800GT/O if its a wait and see card.

If youre a big gamer youll want another gig of ram and with an opty you might want to think of faster than ddr400 for overclocking with.

i could afford these replacements but im cutting really close to my budget.

i dont even know if that ram would work seems kinda highend. would it work in that DFI board i have listed above.

i piked that video card cause it was cheap and it looked alright from waht the reveiws said.

Nah the video card is pretty mince its a budget dealy more for people who play games once in a blue moon, thats pretty fast ram i was meaing more slightly faster to give you overclocking options(thats why most people get an opteron, something more PC3500 or just some really good 3200 with an overclocking guarantee like corsair XMS ram. Wouldnt go to much over a $100 for the ram.

The 6800GS or the x800GT/o should both be cheaper than the x850 buy a fair bit.

I don't usually put floppy drives in computers anymore so why waste the space and cost.

Aspire fans leave something to be desired in the noise department.

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811998127

35 decibels? YIKES its gonna sound like a plane landing in the room.

Scythe fans are 33cfm at 8 decibels. I cant even hear them running.

http://www.nexfan.co...-120mm-fan.html

Vantec, although louder at 29 decibels are rated at 53 cfm.

http://www.nexfan.com/12vastfan.html

After 15 minutes testing a Aspire X/Qpack build, i replaced the aspire fan with a vantec. You would be surprised how much quieter 6 decibels is.

Decibels are an exponential measure so 6 is fairly large, also a floppy disk drive is still an essential piece of kit for construction and diagnoses and also a good emergency back up for transfering small files if you dont have a USB pen handy and dont want to waste a CD.

alright thats cool. ill get some 3500 ram for the mobo and the 6800GS or the X800gto.

i think this year will be very intresting for the hardware in general....it kinda seems like ati and Nvidia are battling each other pretty hard for graphics supremecy. I would of loved to got my hands on a X1900xt but it was just to costly.

im pretty happy with the setup and ill make those adjustments that you recommened scott. But is it possible for me to overclock the opty 165 dual core to 2.5ghz stable, cause it comes stock at 1.8ghz and id love to overclock but i dont know how. i was hopin that their was a walkthrough guide or something but i guess ill be on my own with that.

Im currently enrolled at tidewater technical instatute and im going for my AA in Computer Network Management. my next instructor will be a hardware specialist so im hopin he might know how to overclock.

yea... im not a pro or anything... umm would it be okay if i did get that ddr550 i mean you said its fast and well i could always save a little more and squeez it in. would that help future proof me a little.

but anyways i apreciate it .....you guys were great thanks.

Well the faster ram would certainly make it easier to overclock the system as you could ramp up your FSB with little need to worry about the ram running out of speed, you could get it to 2.5Ghz but i wouldnt try it until you know more about what you are doing there tonnes and tonnes of info on overclocking and whole forums dedicated to the issue its pretty dangerous as well if you dont know what youre doing.

Dx10 is coming out in summer so new gfx cards and ATI and Nvidia both have new technologies coming out that look really interesting, and they are completely doing aways with the pipelines thing in favour of a single unified pipeline architechture.

wow no more pipelines thats wiked ...only one pipe you gotta love technology.....okay well ill consolt the advanced hardware teacher when i enter into my next month of class i have 2 weeks left in the current quarter then ill have computer hardware for 4hrs.... lol its my only class next month....

alright im satified i think i got it all settled out now...im getting that ddr550 ram with that 6800GS and i should be set for awhile.....ill upgrade the video card when i see some more intresting things pop up....

ummm is that new technology gonna be able to work on the PCI express X16 slots.

I look forward to playing morrowing scrolls of oblivion on this PC when it comes out....well...at least i think ill be able to play it on my new setup.... i mean that game looks pretty nice...

PCI-E hasnt been out very long ild be pretty annoyed if they didnt. That system should be able to handle it no nother the GS performs well just below that of its GT brother or an x800XL and considering the price thats pretty good.

It is a nice build. Especially with the Opteron 165, they overclock like a beast. If you have extra money though, you can add $100 to your video card ($300) and get a 7900GT. They are pretty good and beat the X1800s and are cheaper (in the USA).

Actually if you read a few reviews they beat the X1800s on some fronts but games like FEAR and serious sam X1800 is still faster and they fall short of the x1900 in pretty much every front, it is not a gd time to invest in an expensive graphics card though.

Yeah, the 7900GTX stacks up to the X1900 series, but of course the 7900 GT is going to be a bit worse. What do you expect from a $300 card? IMHO, it is a good card especially for the money.

Sos all the other cards as they all dropped the prices by a similar amount its just Nvidia now has something to make it a bit fairer, its still a bad time to spend more than 200 quid on a gfx card.
