Hi auntjackie50 :tazz:

1. On the desktop, right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon.
2. Click Properties.
3. On the Norton Protection tab, UNcheck Enable Protection.
4. Click OK.
5. Restart the computer - after reboot empty the Recycle Bin
6. On the desktop, right-click the Recycle Bin icon.
7. Click Properties.
8. On the Norton Protection tab, check Enable Protection.
9. Click OK.
10. Restart your computer.

Then rescan with norton. If it still finds sthose do this

Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis

Let me know how it goes :)
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')
DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Sorry Had a busy weekend. Just now catching up.

The files are harmless. They are in the Norton recycle bin. The above directions should have worked but lets try a different method

Open a command promt. Click start>>run and type in cmd There should be a black DOS box open up

Copy and paste the following line in and then hit enter

del \\?\c:\recycler\nprotect\*.*

Let me know if this works

Thanks

Lets try safemode

1. On the desktop, right-click the Norton Protected Recycle Bin icon.
2. Click Properties.
3. On the Norton Protection tab, UNcheck Enable Protection.
4. Click OK.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
.

Open a command promt. Click start>>run and type in cmd There should be a black DOS box open up

Copy and paste the following line in and then hit enter ( or type them)

del \\?\c:\recycler\nprotect\*.*

reboot

Let me know if you still get the same error

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
  • Anti virus- An anti-virus is a must, here are a few good free ones. Please never run more than one ant-virus at a time.

  • Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
  • AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
  • SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • ATF Cleaner (by Atribune) - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
  • Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
  • Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein
