Welcome to GeeksToGo :tazz:

I dont see any malware evident in your system, on the contrary, you seem to be abounding with protection software. I count 5 real-time protection programs (including your firewall)

Keep in mind that with that many programs working to protect you in realtime, every time you try to do something, they each have to take their turn scanning to make sure that that action is safe.

Try disabling everything except the anti-virus and firewall, and see if you notice an increase in speed. If so, I'd reccomend keeping them installed, but only running them periodically as on-demand scanners, rather than keeping them as real-time protection programs.

Thanks Avohir,
it was nice of you to get back to me. I know I had so many on , but I was trying them all to see if they caught anything the others did not. I normally only have AVG and Zone Alarm on all the time, that is showing up in the right side of the bottem bar.I managed to cut down the open ports to 122. I guess I shall keep triming the processes as best as possible. Cheers again for the advice.

All the best.

if that's not the cause, there are some other avenues we can explore.

have you tried running something like http://www.dslreports.com/stest ?

Hi,
I was not sure just how to do that test, but here is one of them. Does it make any sense to you.

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-03-10 09:02:04 EST:
746 / 231
Your download speed : 746 kbps or 93.2 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 231 kbps or 28.9 KB/sec.

that looks fairly standard for a broadband connection. Are you having performance issues with just internet applications, or in general?

In general actually. It seemed like I was slowing down. Then, I play agame on line, called : Joint Operations and I started to get red pings more frequently.

in that case, I would suspect that the issue is with the number of protection programs you have running. Did you try disabling some and seeing if the problem persisted?

Well, I thought that as I had only the two main ones running[ avg and Zone alarm ] on the bottem right side. the rest were not running. If I am wrong, then perhaps it might be better to uninstall them. What do you think. I thought that they would only run if I sort of switched them on. I know, that sounds a bit daft, lol.

I also see Ewido and Spysweeper in your running processes. I wouldn't say uninstall them, but I would keep them from starting at boot, and only use them to run periodic scans

Thanks Avohir,
I only used the Ewido for the purpose of a check. but I am in the process of stopping the Sweeper from running , only when I need it. I might have finally clocked this problem. Microsoft had this file which I downloaded, ITP55.32 EN. This is for some of the latest KBs and believe it or not, mine is on the list. Thank God. So we shall see when try it out asap.

All the best.
