I have ran spybot and adaware to try and remove the outerinfo popups, but they still happen. Any ideas?

Please Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and reply here with your log.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hello Casey and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite a mixture of malware and Trojans that need to be eradicated. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Please disable Ewido Guard from running as it will hinder our attempts to change anything. Open Ewido>Status and remove the Guard option. You may be required to reboot for the change to take effect.

To start please download the following programmes, we will run them later. Please save them to a place that you will remember, I suggest the Desktop:

Killbox by Option^Explicit
CCleaner
CWShredder
cwsserviceemove.reg file

Now please install CWShredder, and run it. Click Check For Update, then Fix and then OK followed by Next, let it fix everything it asks about

Install Ewido Security Suite.
  • Install Ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
    • You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates
Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Safe Mode

Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The programme will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop and include it in your reply.
Now close Ewido security suite.

Please visit Jotti.org for a file scan. At the top of the page find File to upload and scan click Browse, navigate to this file path:

C:\DOCUME~1\CASEY~1.RBR\MYDOCU~1\CROSOF~1.NET\nslookup.exe

please note that the tilde ~ is a computer symbol for more letters or numbers

……… and then click Submit and wait while Jotti scans the file. Please note the findings where it says Status a few lines down from the top, and let me know in your reply.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CD092F69-BDA2-B259-F0F9-E53B86057292} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\eoh.dll
O2 - BHO: IeCaptureBho Object - {7c1ce531-09e9-4fc5-9803-1c2956615786} - C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktopIE.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD092F69-BDA2-B259-F0F9-E53B86057292} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\eoh.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rse] C:\Documents and Settings\casey.RBROWN\My Documents\?dobe\c?rss.exe
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrpc32 - winrpc32.dll (file missing)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Unzip cwsserviceemove.reg file to your desktop. While in safe mode, double click on it and grant it permission to add the registry items.

Please install Killbox by Option^Explicit.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select Delete on Reboot
  • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\eoh.dll
  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you run CCleaner. Install it, update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, ensure you uncheck old prefetch data found under the system tab, and under the heading of Utilities uncheck Ewido Security Suite log, then click Analyze> Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds. Also click Issues then Scan for issues – fix selected issues

Post back a fresh HijackThis log (from normal mode) and I will take another look. (Don’t forget the Ewido log and Jotti reply)

Hello again Casey

The logs look better, but Ewido picked up Zlob, so there's a chance that some other hidden stuff is in there; we'll check.

The file you can't find for Jotti is there, but it is being hidden from you. The file itself would normally be a Windows system file, but the location is wrong and therefore suspect. The writer has removed the first two letters of the folder name to stop cut'n'paste into killbox etc.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please visit Jotti.org for a file scan. At the top of the page find File to upload and scan click Browse, navigate to this file path:

C:\DOCUME~1\CASEY~1.RBR\MYDOCU~1\CROSOF~1.NET\nslookup.exe

Will probably be:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\CASEY.RBROWN\MYDOCUMENTS\MICROSOFT.NET\nslookup.exe

……… and then click Submit and wait while Jotti scans the file. Please note the findings where it says Status a few lines down from the top, and let me know in your reply.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CD092F69-BDA2-B259-F0F9-E53B86057292} - (no file)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Download smitRem.exe ©noahdfear, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:[list=1]
[*]Restart your computer
[*]After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
[*]Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
[*]Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with a fresh HijackThis log, from normal mode, and I will take another look.

Okay, I got to that file and ran the jotti on it. This is what I got: The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file

Here is the smitfiles log:

Hello again Casey

The log is looking good with two exceptions:

C:\Program Files\iLinc\Client\bin\LLPush.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\CASEY~1.RBR\MYDOCU~1\CROSOF~1.NET\nslookup.exe

I don't know what they are. The second one is almost certainly a trojan, but the first may or may not be.

Can you please submit them both to Jotti for a scan?

Please turn off your firewall before you do.

Also, could you please copy the exact path of the second one as it appears on your PC? Also the size of it and date when created (find this by right clicking on file and choosing PROPERTIES).

Thanks

I have turned off my firewall and ran the 2nd one again. It still tells me: The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file. The path is C:\Documents and Settings\casey.RBROWN\My Documents\Μіcrosoft.NET the nslookup.exe is in the Microsoft.NET folder. The size is 72kb created on March 1, 2006. The first file LLpush.exe is okay, I know what this one is.

Hello Casey

Thanks for that.

Please do a search of your PC for all instances of nslookup.exe. You should have one in system32 folder and one in servicepackfiles\i386 folder, if you have that downloaded. Those are legitimate and should be 75Kb, have a look at the date modified too.

Post your results please. Jotti says 0bytes and yet the file says 72Kb, both can't be right.

BTW, how is it running now?

I did a search on My Computer for nslookup.exe. It returned this: NSLOOKUP.EXE-0F7A0F27.pf (Location:) C:\WINDOWS\prefetch (Size:) 14kb (Date Mod:) 3/10/06

It seems to be running fine? I have not had a single OuterInfo pop up or any other for that matter since we walked through these steps. Thank you for that!! Just not sure about that nslookup and if it is anything?

Also, I did find the nslookup in the system 32 like you had said. It is 75kb. When I ran the search it didn't find it, I had to browse to that location to look for myself.

OK, I understand your position, but I am not content.

Let's have a break for 24 hours and see if anything transpires.

Can you please attempt to rename that file (you may have to be in safe mode to do so) to:

C:\Documents and Settings\casey.RBROWN\My Documents\Μіcrosoft.NET\nslookup2.exe by adding the number 2 to the file name.

Please delete this entry in the prefetch folder C:\WINDOWS\prefetch\NSLOOKUP.EXE-0F7A0F27.pf (Size:) 14kb (Date Mod:) 3/10/06

I have a feeling that the file will not allow a rename, if it doesn't, try (again in safe mode) deleting it and sending it to the recycle bin for 24 hours and see if there is an improvement in the system.

Good Morning:

I have renamed the nslookup.exe to nslookup2.exe and deleted the prefetch. Should I now delete that file from my system?

Yes please do.

May I ask for a fresh HJT log from normal mode.

How is the PC running now?
