Ok, I have a few problems here. The main one is that there seems to be a networking problem. My internet works fine, but today when me and my friends hooked up a lan for some gaming, mine would not find the game servers that they set up. It said I was connected, I tried two different cables, different ports, turned off all my virus and firewall software, reinstalled the game, tried a completely different game, restarted my computer multiple times, and it still would not find the server on the LAN. I don't understand what the problem is, because it worked perfectly before.

The second problem is more of a nuisance. My start bar takes quite a while to load at start-up, and not all the icons show in the task bar near the clock anymore. Even if I say shall all the time in the properties they don't show up. I also don't get any bubble popups anymore.

So yeah I know that's a huge hunk of facts but I wish someone could help me, I really don't want to format my computer.

could you describe in detail the lan setup?
do you have a static ip or a dynamic ip?
when you set up the lan can you ping the other computers on the network?
