I formated my hard drive and reloaded XP home. I can not see this computer on my home network after completing this. I suspect the firewall is the problem. The on and off settings on the firewall page are dim and can't be changed. When I click exceptions it says: Window Firewall is turned off. Your network administrator is using Group Policy to control these settings. How can I get control of these settings?

Hi there Spyder1, welcome to Geeks To Go Forums.

Download Spybot - Search & Destroy and run it. I know that there is some kind of setting on the computer that Spybot - Search & Destroy picks up. It says something about "Windows Firewall Override" and "Windows Firewall Disable". If you run Spybot this should stop the problem you are having. (When you have checked the boxes, when it has found the problem, click on "Fix Selected Problems")

Let me know if you are still haveing problems.
