Just installed XP after formatting a HD that formally had W98 on it.
Now, it takes a long time for the boot up process to complete after turning on the machine.
Booting up to a CD or floppy no longer works.
While booting up the machine 'Delete' does not work.
The computer boots up into XP with no way to interrupt to gain access to the bios.

Any ideas?

Hey there dlw. What are your system spec's??? (Proccessor, HD space, ect.)

Also if you can get hold of SP2 (Service Pack 2) this should fix most of the new errors you have come up with.

The Wxp CD is Version 2002 with SP2.
Already did all MS updates via the internet.
Specs are in sig.

This box is 2.3ghz, 1g ram, 160g HD, Dual CD/DVD burner.

The brand is 'homade'
I put this box together some time ago and used it to run W98.
There has been no problems with anything until now.
No problems installing Wxp. It went very smooth.

I lied, sorry.

I had problems getting the onboard 'nic' working.
Upgraded the motherboard (N2U400) software and solved the problem.

No problems installling Wxp however.

hmmm... when did your problem occured after upgrading the board's software of before you upgraded it?
when you said "board's software you did not mean the BIOS right?
Does that brand "HOMADE" have a website...can't seem to find its website ....

No, no, keep asking questions - please.

Homade means I made built the system myself.
I did not mess with the bios.
The problem started after installing the new software for the mobo but I started the system several times after that.

I installed Wxp yesterday am. Installed several software programs that I've used for some time. Mozilla, gimp, openoffice, etc. This requied several restarts. I did not have a problem with start up, entering the bios or anything else until turning the box back on this am.

AVG does not detect any viruses.

I AM A USER WITH A LITTLE TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE.

Try going to XP's safe mode (by pressing the F8 key during the system's boot up)...choose the "last known good.." option...if this does not solve the problem then try loading your updated board's software again...

"last known good" ee-gads, does that mean all the software I installed goes down the ****** ... if it works?

Yes make sure the keyboard is PS/2 so that you can insert it in your PS/2 port. USB has problems functioning outside of windows.

Turned off computer.
Removed USB keyboard.
Attached a PS/2 keyboard.
Turned computer on.
Didn't help.
F8 nor Delete work.

Normally during boot up I see the graphics card details then a ram check and other items. That no longer happens. Once the on button is pushed you see nothing until Wxp starts.

Ok, now from a software error it seems like a hardware, did you update the drivers again. Did you update you BIOS (If not, DONT if you update your BIOS with the incorrect version, you maybe in bigger problems. Ok so now what have you done since you cannot check you Graphics details and RAM check. (I know you have changed your keyboard, change it back to your original, other than that???)
