While dealing -- frustratingly -- with the annoying Sonic Update Manager, and still not having solved THAT problem, I seem to have lost access to my 16x DVD/RW Drive. And since I can't read off of it, I can't reinstall the driver from the installation cd that came with the computer. For the record, I find it really annoying, all this "trial", etc. software that they bundle with these computers now.

Thanks!

Thanks, Keith, it worked! Not sure how or why, but it worked.
Now, about that Sonic Update Manager that Windows keeps looking for on reboot: I tried removing the two files mentioned in another post, via start-run-msconfig-startup, then remove two files (I can't recalll their names). It worked, except that i got a warning on reboot that said that Windows should start up with all files. I couldn't find anything on Sonic's website. I'd be happy to get rid of the whole thing -- is it "My DVD LE"?
Thanks,
Bob

When you remove ticks from msconfig and reboot, you get a message with the option to tick, do not start the configuration utility

Very likely to be mydvd, the LE probably being light edition for bundles (of crepe)
