sure the cords are plugged in correctly? it may sound stupid but ive hit my head off the wall a few times over somethnig stupid like that.

I am sorry, I think I answered in the wrong area to your reply, forgive, for I am new at this! Yes, I did try the plugins on the speakers, I wish it would have been that simple!

Check out the Devices under Control Panel--->Systems---->Device Manager.
If there is a conflict shown or red mark then ur sound card or some driver may be at fault.
Also check out if you enabled the sound from sound icon in the taskbar.

There is not a confict with anything in device manager, unfortunately. Not sure what you mean by checking sound to sound, could you please let me know.

In windows there is a taskbar on the bottom. Extreme right of your start button where the time is displayed. There is a speaker image displayed in it. If it's not there then surely you have not installed the sound card
Double click on that image to open its properties. If its working it will show all the volume controls, or may give a error message. Let me know of that message.
