Hi there. I hope you can help, the people on the Americas Army website haven't been much help so far - a challenge for you guys.

I get these graphics effects - http://i14.photobuck...hebody/why2.jpg

and

http://i14.photobuck...thebody/why.jpg

They seem to be alleiviated when I minimise the game back to the windows desktop and then ismore stable when I maximise the game screen again.

I have recently had a full format and reinstall of windows XP Pro after a replacement motherboard (winfast 760gxk8mc) and a ADM Sempron 3000+ has ben put in. I had some problems during install with a 512 memory stick (could this cause these graphics issues? I have a 256 and a 512 stick and the 512 was causing problems in install but is now recognised in windows).

My Dxdiag file is below, could someone PLEASE help. All drivers have been installed from scratch and I am sure they are up to date. Please please please help as there was no problem before I replaced the motherboard and processor.

Thanks.

Jon.

Since I've never played this game before, I really cannot tell what the problem is. The photos look fine except for a few jaggies... is that the problem? Is there something specific I should be looking at?

I had some problems during install with a 512 memory stick (could this cause these graphics issues?

Ram is always an issue with games. So yes, it could be a ram issue. You might try running memtest to check out your ram. Memetest is quite reliable and any errors during the test will indicate bad ram... or poor ram. Please go HERE and read the documentation. Download memtest and run it.

Hi there.

Yes, where you see the blue wall on pic2 it should be a staircase leading up to a helipad and also where you see only parts of the gun in pic 1 it should be the whole thing (this is replicated by the sight of backpacks and hats running around in mid air as the rest of the soldier is invisible, and only the wheels of abandoned cars sat there LOL).

During install of windows I had to uninstall the 512 stick and just use the 256 and it worked fine, previously I tried to install using the 512 and the 256 and it kept crashing during install (Bluescreen errors). When I took out the 256 and just used the 512 the pc beeped at me repeatedly (does this mean I need a new 512 stick?).

Please advise.

Jon.

More than likely.

However, did you try the 512 ram stick in another slot to see if you still get the same problem. It might be the motherboard slot, although we hope not! If you just purchased the ram, try returning it for a replacement.

What does Windows see as your total ram? Go to Start... right click on My Computer and choose Properties. On the General tab, look towards the bottom and see what Windows reports as total ram.

Hi.

Windows sees 768 but I could only get windows to install after removing the 512 stick, regardless of what slot it was in.

I bought the ram a couple of years ago, should I replace it?

Does faulty ram cause the graphics problems shown above? If so how does it?

Thanks.

You should really run memtest to find out if you get errors. I cannot tell you to go out and buy new ram. I can only give you advice on what you can try to examine the ram. It's totally up to you to decide whether to do something about it.

Does faulty ram cause the graphics problems shown above? If so how does it?

Windows requires a certain amount of ram to run. In XP, you can count on that being about 1/3 of your available ram. The ram is used to load programs and whatever else windows requires just to get to the desktop. Now, if your ram is bad enough to give errors, this makes your OS unstable. If you then try to run games, then you will certainly run into problems. In other words, it doesn't matter if your video card has all the ram in the world... it's not going to perform if your system ram sucks! :tazz:

Run memtest and see what happens.

Hey razorhoof,

I've played AAO, but not seriously in about two years.

I've seen similar problems like you display in the second picture (through the pillars).
The video card that displayed things similarly to your picture is/was an unsupported video card with only 32MB of RAM.

It appears you have a SYSTEM memory problem and/or VIDEO CARD problem or you messed with the settings on your VIDEO card driver and possibly in the the AAO game.

1st, I recommend if you are using and AGP video card, on the motherboard in BIOS set the AGP aperature to the same size as the memory on your video card (sounds like 128MB).

2nd, download and install new video card drivers from NVIDIA or the card manufacturer.

3rd. The picture looks like what one would see with an incompatible card, but your card is not incompatible. Therefore ensure your settings are correct. Make sure to set the NVIDIA settings to the default settings.

4th. For testing, set the AAO settings to all lowest/low settings, disable decals, dynamic lighting, trilinear, set the game to run at a lower resolution, etc

5th. Make sure all system RAM is of the same type and approved for use in your motherboard.

6th. Don't overclock anything or set anything in the motherboard BIOS to anything that you "think" will optimize the performance. If possible, set the BIOS back to the FAILSAFE defaults and try it again.

I still think the video card drivers are probably the issue, but if none of the above helps, you probably have a defective video card. BTW, when removing or installing all electronic devices, you must always use ESD protection (Electro-Static Discharge control devices). These devices ensure that static which always exists even though you can't feel it or see it will be dissipated properly so you don't damage your computer components.

Best wishes and good luck.
