HI. This is my first posting, so bear with me. I have the black screen 'Warning! Spyware detected...' on one of the user log-in screens. I have gone through virtually all the scans that were advised on your malware removal guide, including: Ad-aware, Spy-bot S&D, Trojan Hunter, Ewido, CW Shredder, Trend Housecall. I also have SpySweeper installed, Trend Micro PC-Cillin, and have run the Trend Sysclean program. Nonetheless, the problem remains. Also, my computer is now actually running much more slowly than when I started this process a couple days ago. It takes forever to log-in under any login screens. I have run the HijackThis program as advised. It is as follows. I hope you can help me get my normal screen and computing back.

Under "Web Pages" you should see an entry checked called something like "Security info" or similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the "Delete" button. Click OK then Apply and OK.

• Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
• Under Main choose: Select All
• Click the Empty Selected button.
• If you use Firefox:

• Put a tick by Delete on Reboot.
• In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following line:

• Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle.
• It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot and ask you if you want to reboot now.
• Click Yes and let the computer reboot.

* After it reboots, open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button. Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button. Click the "Save List" button. Copy and paste that list here.

My normal screen is back! The computer still seems to be running slowly, though, especially on log-in. Perhaps that's due to the more than 10 anti-spyware malware programs I've had to download to get this fixed? Are there certain ones I should keep/discard? Thanks so much for your help. Delete SmitREm from your desktop.


* Check this out for info on how to tighten your security settings and some good free tools to help prevent this from happening again.


* Go to Windows update and install all "High Priority Updates".


* Now turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a restore point" and click the Next button.
Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After trojan/spyware cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

Things seem to be working pretty well now overall, except my email has refused to open a few times until restarting or logging off...didn't ever do this before. Whether this is related to these recent problems, I don't know. Otherwise, it's great. Thank you very very much for the help. Please keep knocking out the malware!
