Internet Explorer will not update

I have tried repeatedly to update IE from 5.5... to 6. Everythings seems fine... the installer downloads and the installation seems normal.... but when the installation indicator bar gets to the right side indicating the installtion is complete I get an error message saying components are missing and that the installation couldn't be completed. I've tried re-installing - starting the process agaian and again... to no avail.
Any possibilities?
I'm running ME
