Xp stuck at startup blue screen.

My friends sisters laptop is stuck at the blue startup screen. Is there anyway to fix it? It's xp. Thank you.

What blue screen? The log-on screen? Or is the system giving you a blue sreen with the words "Windows has detected a problem", etc on it?

the windows welcome screen right after teh scrolling 3 boxes. I went to the recovery console and used chkdsk, it said it found problems but didn't say if It fixed them. also, I couldn't figure out how to actually repair the install. She is going to totally reinstall windows soon if it can't be fixed.
