my daughter has an old dell dimension computer, her OS is WindowsME. when her computer is turned on only the desktop theme shows up. no icons, start buttons or anything. the icons only appear when the computer is run in safe mode. we get to safe mode by pressing F8 at bootup. what can we do to get icons to show up in normal mode? we have tried to use the "restore system..." but it fails to restore the system to any earlier date.
i have received great help from this GTG site and i am trully grateful. wish i knew how to thank the last person who helped me. if anyone could respond to let me know how to say thanks to my helper, please educate me in area also. this is my first day using this site.

If safe mode with networking is an option from F8 in ME then the CD drive should run
