Hi UnnaturalInamorata

In this case bgdkmetzger2003 has no Google related tools loaded so that idea may not help.

If you would like to assist in the removal of malware and learn to use HijackThis please see this thread http://www.geekstogo...ersl-t2792.html

I was on spring break. things are getting a lot better! i still need to do that windows update. i have been noticing an increase in popups lately but maybe since ive put on the spyblaster, it might get better, so we'll see. i dont know about the alertview.exe error either. ill keep an eye out for it. thats all i have to report at this time. thanks again.... let me know how the log looks. :tazz:

Hi there

Thanks for getting back to me. That is looking a lot better.

Open HijackThis and check this item

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [basesecondtonsfor] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\love media base second\32 readme.exe

You can also check these items as they don't need to run on start up and will start if they are needed or if you would like to start them.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TrojanScanner] C:\Program Files\Trojan Remover\Trjscan.exe

Don't forget to disable Microsoft Antispyware and The Cleaner monitor and Active so the fix will work.

Close all open windows, disconnect from the internet and click Fix Checked.

Boot into Safe Mode and open Windows Explorer. Navigate to here and delete this folder

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\love media base second

Reboot into normal mode.

Update Windows as soon as possible. The updates close lots of exploits that are used by malware infections. Always read the alerts from Microsoft Antispyware's monitor.

Download the free ccleaner from here http://www.ccleaner.com/ Install the program.

Open it from the Desktop icon.

In the Windows tab - all items are ticked by default. You may like to untick Autocomplete Form History and Recent Documents if you use them. Click on Analyze. A list of items will appear in the right hand screen. This will include a number cookies that may contain password information so make sure you know all your passwords. This will do a cleanup of your system for you and is a more thorough utility than Windows built-in disk cleanup utility. Don't use any of the other tabs just yet - only the Windows tab. Click on "Run Cleaner". This will do the cleanup job for you.

Reboot

You still have two instances of internet explorer running so I'd like to see another HijackThis log to check if the deletion above has made any difference.

Hi there

That is looking much better - the infection is now clear. You no longer have the extra iexplorer processes running. The McAfee items listed at the end of the log aren't going to cause you any trouble.

If you already installed Spywareblaster and IESpyad as I recommended before I don't need to recommend them again :tazz:

Keep Windows up to date. Ideally set Windows Update to Automatic. There's a link to Windows Update in the Control Panel Windows - it's on the left hand side of the window. You can change the settings for Windows Update by opening System in Control and going to the Automatic Updates tab. It should be set to Automatic. Check that it is. Sometimes that setting gets changed.

You need to install a firewall. The Windows XP firewall does not control outgoing traffic so you need one that does that. These are free:

Zone Alarm is the most widely used but the others all work as well:
Zone Alarm http://www.Zonelabs.com/
Sygate http://soho.sygate.c...ownload_buy.htm
Tiny Personal Firewall http://www.webmasterfree.com/tpfw.html
Kerio Personal Firewall http://www.kerio.com/kpf_download.html

Think about using Firefox as your main browser - it's a lot more secure than Internet Explorer - Thunderbird, the sister email program to Firefox, is also easy to use and set up and a whole lot more secure than OE. There's a link to the site in my signature.

Keep your antivirus program up to date and do regular scans
Keep your firewall up to date and read alerts before clicking Yes.

Keep Adaware up to date and do regular scans
Keep Spybot Search and Destroy up to date and do regular scans
Spywareblaster also needs to be kept updated

Remember the baddies have more time and money than we do ;)
