Well we are sorry you are back :whistling: but let's take a look.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner
This will take approx. 90 minutes

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop. We will need it later.
**If for some reason you cannot run this scan you might have to set your security settings to prompt before installation of unsigned Active X. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Security tab and select Custom Level. Scroll down and set Download unsigned Active X to Prompt. That should allow the Kaspersky scan to download the Active X after a prompt to you.

This is very important...
Make sure you are set to normal startup. Click Start -> Run -> Type Msconfig -> Press Enter -> make sure Startup is set to Normal
Reboot

Then post a new HJT log and the Kaspersky scan.

Regards,

LTP

Let's update your Java
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

I do not see anything wrong with your log and you have a clean Kaspersky log. What are your current problems?

Hi,

The computer seemed to be slower than usual similar to last month's problem, so I suspected a virus - but if the logs look good then I guess I'll just have to watch its behavior for now. I'll repost if further difficulties arise, and I certainly thank you sincerely for your help!

Kaspersky is one of the best if not the best out there...

Let me just see if there are any remnaints of Norton left on your computer :whistling:

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Let's get rid of the rest of the norton items.

Go to add/remove programs in your control panel and uninstall(if there):

Norton Security Center
LiveUpdate 2.6 (Symantec Corporation)
Viewpoint Media Player

Reboot and post a HJT log for me :whistling:

You are clean now, I am just trying to get the Norton services off of your computer now

Hi,

Everything seems to be working smoothly now. Thanks again for your interest and help with this problem! Incidently I am an ophthalmologist, so please feel free to call upon me if you or your family ever need my help with an eye problem.
