Hi all.

I have Dell system I bought last October with XP media edition. I wanted to add my scanner to the new system. I had no problem installing the software for the HP Scanjet 5370C scanner. But when I go to open up the HP PrecisionScan Pro software, I get the error that says.... Sorry, Scanner could not be initialized.(Scanner not found.)

I went to the control panel, printer & other hardware, scanners and cameras and it doesn't list the scanner there. It is connected with a USB cable. I have even changed cables to make sure it wasn't the cable. I have power to the scanner.

Any ideas as to why my computer isn't showing the scanner????

Thanks

Hi onejinx...

Sorry about that....

HP USB printers and scanners has a bit of a problem in isntallation especially when the hardware goes in before the drivers and softwares.... Did you connect the scanner to your hardware before running the scanner's CD? If so...you should removed the software and its driver, then disconnect the scanner from the system, restart your system then try installing the siftware before connecting your scanner.... Encountered the same problem when I installed a client's HP 3 in 1 :tazz:

I ran the CD first to install the software. After the software loaded, it tells you to hook up the scanner which I did. Then nothing happens.

Thanks for the help

Ok – sometimes this – [Quick Fix] – works –depending on how many Reinstalls were done - Just try the following –

1- Shut down PC
2- Disconnect Scanner from PC
3- Restart PC
4- Wait until Windows is – Loaded – Installed & Running
5- Now Power On Scanner
6- Now connect the Scanner to a USB Port

See if PnP finds new Hardware now & installs the Scanner – If this does not work – then we will have to do the Long Version – [Fix for Device Manager] –

Hi Jack123.. this I got to learn..fixin device managers

Well – maybe [Fix] – is wrong verbiage/terminology – [Coach/Convince/Enhance] – may have been better

The fact that the – [Installation Process] – was probably – [Improperly Altered] – does not give predictable steps to [Fix] – And I do not have enough – [Software Knowledge] – to –[FIX] – this –Hardware Problem [??] – It is the Software Control that needs be – [Undone] [??] –

By the way –
Mikail – Welcome to – [Geeks to go] – Feel free to add your thoughts and/or suggestions –

That is correct – That is what I mean by –

[Improperly Altered]

PS – Do not use this phrase at Airports –

Jack,

I tried the Quick Fix and nothing happened. I guess I will have to try the long version.

Thanks

Ok – Download the – [Attachment] – below for instructions to have – [Device Manager] – show/view [Non Present Devices] – This will permit – [Device Manager] – to give you a look at – [Device History] –

Once the – [Installation Process] – has faulted [??] – PnP cannot find device – To install – and/or – To uninstall – Many times Device Manager – will make an entry of a device during the Installation Process – but will keep it out of – [View] –

Depending on what – [Device Manager] – will now show about the Scanner – will determine the next step in the – [Problem Solving/Learning] –

The – [Non Present Devices] – will be indicated by – [Muted or Light grayish Print] – of Devices shown – The -[Present Devices] – will be indicated by the – [Normal/darker print] –

Attached File  02_Attachment_Device_Manager_Prep_for_Non_Present_Devices.doc   20.5KB   37 downloads

______________________________________________________________________________

After Device Manager is enhanced -

Now you need to open – [Device Manager] – (Make sure you check – [View Hidden Devices] – each time you open – [Device Manager])

1- Check [View Hidden Devices] in Options
2- Expand all Folders – Click on the [+] – Sign
3- Scanner will be listed under – [Image Folder] – if it was installed??
4- I am interested in all – [USB Folders & sub-folders] & all information on Controllers – Root Hubs - You should see – items listed as – [Enhanced or 2.0 USB Host Controller] – EHCI or [Universal Host Controller]-UHCI or [Open Host Controller]-OHCI – I would like to know the Manufacturer of USB Chipset which may be – [NEC] – [Ali] – [Intell] – [SiS] – [VIA] –
5- Are there any – [Unknown Devices]
6- Are there any – [Problem Devices]
7- What are the – [Non Present Devices] that you see – [Light grayish] – Instances
8- Any unknown Devices in the [Non PnP] Devices
9- Is there a [Printer Support] – Entry in the USB Section

Just gathering more info – Post back results-
