Install Issue With Windows XP SP2

I have attempted several times to upgrade my Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2. During the installation, I keep getting a message "Access is Denied" approximately half-way through. I searched the Microsoft Knowlegde Base and followed the instructions located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148. This solution did not work. I have run adaware se(w/VX2 Cleaner), spybot s & d, AVG scan and online trend micro virus scan. Also, I have purchased and ran a scan using Registery Mechanic. These programs did pick up issues on the computer and I went through the steps on each program to resolve the spyware, malware, etc... It still did not resolve the install issue.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated....I have utilized all tools that I know of. Thank you in advance and I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section of the forums. Here is the HJT Log:

If you go to Microsoft Update, does it show you the list of available updates, does it install any besides SP2

Thank you for your reply!! Yes, all updates are installed up to the point of SP2. The service pack 2 appears already downloaded and installs approximately half-way through and then I get the message "Access is Denied". From the MS article link in my previous post, this has been an issue for others but Microsoft's fix did not work. I enabled the verbose logging and let the install fail, then checked the log and just like the article referenced, there was an error reported with HKCR\vdn.ms.radio in the registry. I selected full permission with this registry key and still get the "Access is Denied" with the install.

I have many programs installed and would prefer not to have to do a fresh install of win xp pro. Hopefully, you all can give me some guidance.
