If you can copy all the data you need to folders on the other drive, then remove your problem drive, check the data exists on the other drive, burn it to CDR(W) / DVDR(W) discs then check you can read the data on those, you can install the problem drive in its PC.

Then either use the hard drive manufacturer's set up utility to write zeros to the problem drive, which returns the drive to an as new condition, then you can install XP, use the default NTFS format, not quick during set up, and check it is creating a new partition RAW 1 on C, if it is any different, press the reset button and it will default to C

Another option is to use Boot and Nuke

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

The CD version must be burned as an ISO image file

Q: How do I make a bootable CD with the ISO file?

A: Download the ISO file to your desktop and double-click it.

If nothing happens when you double-click the ISO file, then you must obtain CD burning software, like one of these products:

CDBurnerXP (Gratis)
VSO Blindwrite (Shareware)
Nero Burning ROM (Shareware)
Roxio Easy Writer (Commercial)

If you burn DBAN to CD-R and see just one file when you open the CD-R afterwards, then you have burned DBAN incorrectly.
