My HP motherboard died and I have ordered a new motherboard from them. The thought occurred to me that I could buy a similar motherboard w/ same processor, and then instead of using the HP PEM version of windows which is bound to their motherboard I presume, I would instead purchase a new copy of XP and do a repair install. Will this remove the restrictions on the old version on my hard drive so I do not lose all my data with the non HP motherboard?
