Adobe Acrobat Issue in 2000

I have a friend who recently installed Adobe Acrobat 7.0 up from 5.0 on his 2000 box. Now when he clicks to open it, or uses a shortcut of some sort to open it, it gives the hourglass for half a second and then nothing happens. After clicking shortcuts for a few seconds, we check the task manager and it shows 5 or 6 instances of Acrobat running, depending on how many times we tried to open it. And it still does nothing. I thought it may be affected by another program running, or possibly the automatic update trying to go at the same time. Anyone else ever had this problem? Any suggestions or answers would be greatly appreciated.
