installing RAM

i bought some new ram 1Gb DDR 184 pin pc3200 400Mhz dual channel and i need to know how to install it. i know that there and 2 empy slots on my motherboard, do i just put them in there, or is there something special i habe to do. i currently ahve 512mb dual channel in there. (thats why i bought a gig, so ill be at 1.5 gigs) and after i install the ram, is it plug and play or do i have to do some sort of a hardware install wizard?

Ye, it should be plug and play. Just install it and it should work striaght away.

No its not how much RAM you have, its what type of connection you are using.

ok just confirming, i just put the 2 sticks in to the 2 empty slots and they will work?

Yip they should work, once you have installed them startup Windows and goto "Control Panel" then "System". You should see on the first tab how much memory you have.

The largest stick should go in slot 1

this is what im going to do with my ram, move whats is in the first 2 slots to the last 2 slots and put the new stuff in the first two. (i made a diagram)


ram slots:

<-----slot 1----->
<-----slot2------>
<-----slot3------>
<-----slot4------>

currently:

<-----256 ddr----->
<-----256 ddr------>
<-----slot3------>
<-----slot4------>

gunna change to:
<-----512 ddr------>
<-----512 ddr------>
<-----256 ddr----->
<-----256 ddr------>

Thats how my motherboard says to do dual channel.
