Hello Earl,

Please download HijackThis. Run it and perform a scan -- please save and post the information from the log into your next reply. Along with this, please generate an Uninstall List --

To get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
  • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.
Thanks,
Dan.

Hi Earl,

Please complete the first part of my instructions:

Please download HijackThis. Run it and perform a scan -- please save and post the information from the log into your next reply.

To do this, run HijackThis, and then select the option Do a System Scan and save the log -- once it's finished, it'll open up a new text file; please copy/paste all of that information into your next reply -- do not choose to "fix" anything. I need to see what is actually running on your computer.

Thanks,
Dan.

Hello Earl,

Sorry for the slow response..

From what I can see, there are no programs which I would immediately suspect as being the sole cause for this problem, however you have ALOT of software on your computer, not to mention many applications that are starting up at Start Up, which could be contributing to the problem. So, I would suggest that you try to clean your computer up a little.

First of all, you should try to remove as many applications as you can from the Start Up List -- Please download WinPatrol --> Install it and then run it. Now, click on the StartUp Programs tab --> From the list provided, select all of the programs that you do not ABSOLUTELY need to run at start up; ie: Remove your P2P programs from the start up list.. This will not remove the programs from your computer; you will still be able to access them by running them manually after start up. You should be able to remove a fair amount of programs from your Start Up List, as the majority of those you have do not need to run at start up. To stop a program from running at start up, select it so that it is highlighted, then press the Disable button.

Now, goto Start --> Run --> Type: appwiz.cpl --> Wait for the list to load, and then remove/uninstall as many programs as you can.. Try to remove anything that you do not use or do not need. Note: This will completely remove the programs from your computer; you will have to re-install them if you wish to use them later on.

Once you have done these two steps, restart your computer and then try sharing files again; are you able to?
