We have a Dell 4600 and for the past four months have been using a LinkSys external wireless device to access a campground wireless internet option.

For the past week at shutdown, an error message appears that says WUSB54GV4.exe application error. It gives numbers like 0X1001298 (it changes each time) and says memory could not be read. It offers the option to terminate or debug. The debugging option does nothing.

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to handle this problem.

In the same time frame, my Macafee security program needed to be reinstalled because it popped up with an error. Further, two days ago Windows XP stopped working. I tried to reboot and it would try to start but screen went blank (not blue). I used the diagnostic disk from Dell and it found IDE disk reading errors. Microsoft information suggested I start the computer through DOS and do chkdsk /f. It worked and the computer is now working. (We had a similar problem when the computer stopped functioning about 3 months ago but then it was a blue screen.) The WUSB error message is still appearing.

Any suggestions on what to do about the error message? Also, is my hard drive starting to die?

I'll look forward to your help.
