Hello geeks,

Ive been having this problem with my Windows XP Pro for over a year. It wont let me use the welcome screen, where it has tabs for each user, right now, i have to type in my name and password. Also i cannot switch users without logging off my account, which is rather annoying. I remember when i was trying to fix it, "netware services" was mentioned and said i had to uninstall that, but i cannot find it. Please reply and tell me how to get the XP welcome screen back.

P.S: Ive been in control panel>user accounts>change the way users log on or off. Both checkmarks(Use the welcome screen and use fast user switching) are checked, but still no welcome screen. <_<

It's as easy as this:

1. Go to "Control Panel", then "User Accounts"

2. Choose the third option, "Change the way users log on and off"

3. Then make sure "Use Welcome Screen" is checked, if it is uncheck it then recheck it, and choose "Apply Otions"

After a restart, it will now show the Welcome Screen. thumbsup:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Have HJT fix these two, that's all I see.

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE <---resource hog not needed

reboot your computer then post a new log and after run a spyware check that can also be found in my signiture

I think I found the solution. All I did was go to http://support.microsoft.com/ and searched for "welcome screen" and got this:

http://support.micro...kb;en-us;817164

It looks exactly like the problem you're having. Check it out. <_<

I went to the site, and it is exactly my problem, but when i try to use my Product number to access microsoft free support, it will not work on my computer, i will try from my friend's computer tommorrow, but it says to wait until the next service pack, for it to fix itself. Would you happen know to how to fix it, or could ask microsoft for me, and do you know when the next service pack is coming out? Thanks for troubles <_<

my advice to you would now be to call microsoft at an 800 or 877 number to make sure you dont get billed and tell them about your problem and then the solution you found on there website and to have them send you the patch for this <_<

The fix just involves downloading and installing a file. It replaces your current Win32k.sys.

The next service pack (SP2) is due in June.

You have to contact Microsoft and they'll email it to you. <_<
