Hi, I'm trying to run system file checker using the /scannow option but when I type cmd in "run" the window to type the option in just flashes on the desktop and disappears. I feel I need to run the system file checker to replace some suspect files. One in particular is msconfig. I type that in "run" and hit ok and nothing happens. Can anyone give me any ideas?

Thanks, Tpep

Thanks, I did that and it worked. When I said msconfig wouldn't work, I meant when I hit run, accessories, system tools, system information. System info will not come up. I ran scannow and fixed all bad files.

You can repair XP, though you need to do all the updates afterwards

You can use this guide to repair XP

Possibly, you will need to boot the PC and keep tapping the delete key until the PC enters set up. Change the boot order to CD ROM Drive then hard drive, press F10 then press enter, load the XP CD then type Y then press enter, as it reboots, look for press any key to load from CD, press enter

XP Repair Install

Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system

After running XP Repair you will need to install all Windows Updates

Microsoft Update
