Can Not open search page

My computer is allowing the connection to go through for my internet it says im connected at 100 mbs but when i try to open explorer i get the message can not open search page.. I've called verizon and pinged google and I sent 4 and recieved 4 so he said the connection is fine but its something with my computer.. I have a sony vaio I called sony technical support but they wont 3.00 dollars a minute for help I think thats criminal and refuse to pay it.. Im pretty good with computers but tcp/ip/proxy settings are not my strong point... Thanks for reading any help is appreciated.
