Canīt open anything that has to do with ZoneLabs security, canīt uninstall it either. Redirected without reason from trend micro and symantec sites etc. Ran Ewido and Antivir and found some Haxdoor files and removed them, but things are still not quite right... hereīs the hijackthis log. enjoy.

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :whistling:

Before we can get started on fixing your problem you must change the location of Hijackthis. It should not run directly from your desktop or a temp directory.
  • Download and run the HijackThis autoinstall program
  • Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files as the destination.
  • Run the program only from that location from now on. It is essential that you follow these steps or certain important features of the program will not function correctly.

==========

Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
  • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
  • Click "Next"
  • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
  • Click "Finish"
A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix
  • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
  • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.

Let's kill it and we'll move on to your other issues.

Option 2 autofix
  • Open this folder program files > haxfix and double click on fix.bat (or double click on fix.bat desktop icon)
  • Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
  • Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter
If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.
  • Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter
  • The computer will reboot
  • After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Post the contents of that logfile along with a new HijackThis log.

Please disable Spybot's Teatimer function before you proceed with this fix. If you're not sure how to do that, check this link.
http://russelltexas....re/teatimer.htm

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

You need to update your Java to the current version. Older versions are a security risk.
Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

Otherwise, your log looks pretty good.

nope, it went away again. it worked fine for a while but started bugging again when updating. the problem seems to be the vsmon.exe file. I was actually halfway through an update just now when a message showed up saying that vsmon.exe could not be opened. then another message showed up saying that i had to reboot in order for changes to take effect, so I did and now the Zone Labs folder in the start menu is empty, vsmon.exe is used by another program.

when i try to update it says "Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Installation cannot continue without logging into the TrueVector service. Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service and then restart the installer program." According to the service manager, it+s already stopped but when I click start it says itīs being used by another process.

Iīm just confused and donīt know what to do without wrecking anything else and I donīt know if this all made any sense to you.

Let's manually uninstall Zone Alarm and then we'll reinstall it. Here are the steps:

1. Open the ZoneAlarm program, go to the OVERVIEW -> PREFERENCES
tab, and make sure the Load At Startup box is Unchecked.

Close the program, then right-click on the ZA icon and select
Shutdown. Wait 2 minutes before going on.

2. REBOOT.

3. You should now have no ZoneAlarm processes running on your system.

4. Click Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall. Be sure to say YES to
the security check.

5. Now make sure that you can View Hidden Files
  • Click Start -> My Computer
  • Select Tools -> Folder options
  • Select the View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.
  • Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked.
  • Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
  • Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked
  • For more info on how to show hidden files click here.

6. Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the location box is set to search your local hard drive (usually C: or All Local Drives. Set advanced search options to search ALL files and folders!

Type the following exactly - delete any folders found:

zonelabs
"zone labs"
"Internet logs"

Type the following exactly - delete any files found in \Windows or any
subfolder below it, or in your \Temp folder):

vsdata.dll
vsdata95.vxd
vsdatant.sys
vsmon.*
vsmonapi.dll
vsnetutils.dll
vspubapi.dll
zaplus.*
zapro.*
zlparser.dll
zonealarm.exe
zoneband.dll
vsinit.dll
vsutil.dll
(please right-click, Properties -> Version to be sure it is a ZA file.
Do NOT delete this file unless it is a Zone Labs file!)

GLB*.* (delete any of these that you find in any of your TMP or
TEMP folders)

Delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\Zone Labs

7. Let's clean your registry out a bit:
  • Please dowload: RegSeeker.
  • Click on "Clean The Registry" in the left panel.
  • Check all boxes (make sure the backup box in the lower left corner is selected!).
  • After it runs, click "Select All" on the bottom, then right-click on any selected item in the window and select "Delete Selected Items".
  • Click "Quit RegSeeker".
It should find some Zone Alarm related registry entries, as well as others. Reboot, then go back and run the RegSeeker again, do the same thing again if anything is found. When RegSeeker finds nothing else, then it's clean!

Now Zone Alarm should be completely gone.
Download the latest free version from here.
http://www.zonelabs....g=en&lid=nav_za

Install and you should be good to go. Let me know how it goes. :whistling:
