Hi, I am at my wits end. My computer has been acting so erratic Im ready to call it a day and just reformat my hard drive. I know without a doubt I have a virus and everything Ive read in the forums points to the Vundo trojan yet 3 different virus scan programs did not detect it, however my Depfender Pro said I had a virus when I ran it in safe mode but could not fix it. All it told me was DPASNT.exe\jkhhe.dll. Below is my HJT log. Not only do I see Win Sys32\jkhhe.dll but also Win Sys32\ssttt.dll. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Hi Jazz5557 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Regards,

A. VUNDO is often found on machines that are not running the updated version of Java and the Java cache often requires cleaning in these cases:

Please update your Java and Clear the Java Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

B. Please provide a list of uninstallable programs.

To Provide a List of Installed Programs
  • Run HijackThis.
  • Click Config>>Miscellaneous Tools>>Open Uninstall Manager>>Save List
  • Save list to Desktop
  • Copy the Notepad list and Paste it into this thread.

Using the Add/Remove Programs feature in your Control Panel, please UNINSTALL the following program:

Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05

Reboot your system and post a fresh HJT log.

Trevuren, I uninstalled the old java program and below is the latest HJT log. I was wondering about the
entry for Toolbar with no name and no file? Also as I no longer run Mcafee VS do I need to keep those?
Thanks again! Jazz

Your HijackThis entries will all be cleaned up at the end, don't worry. As far as McAfee goes, by all means, UNINSTALL the product if you no longer use it.

Make sure you restart your system after the uninstall.

Post a fresh HJT log.

Mcafee is uninstalled. The remaining files/folders will not delete. This was not a stand alone program. It was downloaded through the aol security center, their so called "free virus protection". I was online a few nights ago with a tech from Mcafee. I explained the problem I was having getting the program off my computer and that there was a ReadMe.txt in Notepad about removing the core pkg. I told him what the text message said about going into DOS in order to remove the core package and he asked me to explain the core pkg to him. When I told him it was Mcafees program maybe he should explain it to me, he told me to delete the remaining files in Safemode. I knew then I didnt have a chance of getting help from Mcafee with the removal. Of course that didnt work, as you can see they are still there. Any suggestions? Jazz

Wow that did the trick and only took a few minutes. The guys over at Mcafee could definately take some lessons from you..LOL Below is my current HJT log and no Mcafee anything...yippee. Also my computer is running much faster, I dont get redirected to other websites, and my display settings have stayed put. Its a miracle, thanks Trevuren, what's next?

  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Promosoft LiveUpdate: Recovery Startup] "C:\Program Files\Free Registry Fix\liveupd.exe" /check:[FreeRegistryFix][2.3.0.10][26052005.1625] /xml:http://www.pcreply.com/LiveUpdate/FreeRegistryFix/update.xml

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.
Regards,

Trevuren

Hi Trevuren, Here's the latest HJT log. It would not let me fix the Promosoft Live Up Date HKLM. I got Error #52. I also searched for the file and could not find it anywhere. Should I leave it or is there another way to get rid of it? Thanks, Jazz
