It seems that my downloads go slower when my screensaver kicks in ( i thinks its possibly to do with my anti-virus that does something when screensaver switches on).. is that possible?, if so could i just disable the screensaver and switch off/un-plug my monitor?

Right click the desktop, click properties, settings, screensaver, set it to none, click apply to see if that is the reason

You can do this just for downloads and set it back to using the screensaver if you want
