Hi,
I have 2 internet connection problems.

1. My AOL is disconnecting or not connecting at all. My modem seems to be working, but I have also tried to log on with an external modem I had borrowed. The results are the same. The AOL mostly doesn't connect at all with various messages such as "cannot find modem" or "AOL unable to connect". When it does connect, it is either for a very short period of time(5-10 min) and disconnects. This was not a problem until last week when I got a blue screen shutdown error. The phone line is not the problem, as I am able to connect using a friend's laptop.

2. When I am able to connect, my Firefox cannot open any pages. I get a "..... could not be found" message. I have been trying out the Avant browser, and that runs sometimes and other times it does not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

hi Tengu! ok quite a few things here, first should we suspect malware might be at play? do you have anykind of antivirus software? have you contacted AOL asking for support? aol has a history of non aol people having a hard time to fix. also AOL and Firefox (if my memory serves me well) are not the best of buddies, i suggest you try Netscape. Netscape and AOL have had a good track record together.

aol and firefox coexisted happily on my win xp pro pc. you could be having problems because firefox isn't configured to look for the proper settings to use to connect to the net. Also make sure you have the newest version of firefox installed. go to tools, options, general, connection settings and select 'auto detect proxy settings for this network'

the blue screen suggests driver problems with your aol modem. But it can also be because of malware.
