I just finished putting together a new computer: mobo is ASUS A8V-MX (new), 2 RAM DIMMs PC 3200 512MB each (worked in previous comp), Athlon 64 3700+ (new), Gigabyte X800 Turbo (worked in previous comp), 400W ATX v1.3 (worked fine on old comp)

On my first statup, the computer POSTed and then I got a short beep a second later but absolutely no display to the screen. The on-board LED lighted up, fans are spinning fine, I can even hear the HDDs spinning but nothing on screen. I turned comp off and restarted: this time it POSTed but again no display on screen.

Can you please suggest what is wrong here. I have some suspicion around the power supply since it is a v1.3 (20 pin plus 4 pins) and the mobo has a slot for 24pins plus 4pins. The mobo manual mentions that you can use 20pin plus 4pin PS but not very detailed.

Thanks.

According to the asus website your motherboard has on-board S3 graphics. Did you disable this graphics in the BIOS? I think the comp is still looking for video from the S3 graphics port.

Since it does use a 24 pin MB power connector and does have a 4 pin power connector you will need a 20 pin to 24 pin adapter to run both.

Took a fresh look at the build and realized that I am a total retard - I had plugged monitor into mobo's video output instead of the video card. Everything is fine now. Thanks for the help.
