B) I tried the Intel USB 2.0 driver exe as suggested and it would not install. I tried it twice and it would get caught in a neverending loop of Windows stack dump errors, causing me to manually reset twice. Does this suggest a problem to you? <_<

ekneelan, what version of Windows are you running? Versions prior to Windows 98SE didn't have native support for USB. Intel's 2.0 driver won't work on your mobo (only supports 1.0 USB).

I have to admit I'm getting stumped here :D

The device manager shows your USB controller and hub, so your USB controller is functioning on your mobo, and in your BIOS.

So, then if your USB devices aren't working it either has to be the USB driver, or bad input connections (USB port, wires, etc).

You tried removing and reinstalling the USB hubs, so the USB drivers were reinstalled and should be okay. Besides Intel's USB System Check Shows Full USB Support, so it confirms your BIOS, mobo, driver, and OS are all working.

The only thing we're left with is either your WindowsOS has some type of corruption, support problem. Or, the connections from your USB ports to the mobo still aren't correct.

Post your HiJack log as Tazz suggested. I don't think we'll find anything, but we're kinda running out of options. <_< Also, double check those connections, one more time.

edit: I just had a thought. You say you just recently purchased the USB connections for your mobo. Are they USB 2.0? You're board only supports 1.0, they are supposed to be backwards compliant, but I have heard of others having similar problems.

I ran spybot and removed multiple instances of spyware, but to no avail. I will run hijack as soon as I can. As for the question re the sockets, I'm nearly positive that they are USB 1.0, but they are not labeled. I am running Win 98 SE for an OS. An important note.
**** I also got out my meter and ran a check on the pin outs on the mobo. They are completely dead. (ie no 5 volts across ANY of the pins). This pretty much rules out the question of the wiring order of the USB socket pigtails for the moment, but they are in the suggested order. Do you think this suggests a faulty mobo or incorrect driver? Thanks for your input.

Taz, I checked out the suggested link and it looked real promising, but I checked the readme file and my chipset was not listed. Please don't put me in the hall of shame, but I broke down and spent $28 for a Belkin 5 port PCI card. I was skeptical because it is USB 2.0, but it seems to work fine. I'll run it through its paces for a few days and let you know the outcome. I will also check back for any new suggestions, as I hate to be beaten by a machine, especially considering this is what I pretty much do for a living. Thanks to everyone for all of your kind assistance and I'll try to reciprocate to others in the forum when I can be of assistance. ekneelan
