Printer spool problems

I have been trying to install my Lexmark all-in-one printer with no success. Keep getting message "Could not start spooler service on local computer. Error 1068. Dependency service or group failed to start. I understand that Lexmarks are dependent upon themselves and this causes the problem. I have found directions on how to correct this but they involve the registry and I am reluctant to go into the registry and just start hacking and hewing. I am not exactly a computer genius. I am hemorrhaging money right now because I need the printer for work. Any suggestions out there?
