Hi teramel...

Your machine is trying to install a very large update that has to be installed at shutdown. Is there a red shield thingie on the "Turn Off" button? If there is, just let it install...it will take quite a while. Let us know if it really does fail to finish the installation.

updateing 1 of 1 do not turn off your computer

Still, with this message showing up...let it run. I had to leave a machine on overnight to install one of these updates once. I have no idea how long it took as the machine finished and shut down while I slept.

Microsoft has two of these updates so far...one is one large update...the other has about 30 smaller updates that all install at shutdown. They both display the above message.

Let it run and see what happens...

Can you go to control panel then security centre, turn off automatic updates, reboot, visit Microsoft Update and see what updates and how big they are

Check if review your installation history is showing any which are already downloaded

Would you uninstall Windows Defender

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file, click delete, confirm

Run disc clean up then reboot

Run Microsoft Update

If it downloads everything then you can re-install Windows Defender
