Wannabe1,

Hey, sorry to bug you again.
My dad asked me to write to you again.

He was able to get online and go online a few times and things were fine. However just recently when he tried to defrag the computer or even go online the computer says there isnt enough memory please stop any programs that may be running and try again.

Have you ever heard or seen this?

Hi carissa!

Let's have him look at his Virtual Memory setting.

Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double click on the System icon. Under the "Performance" tab, click on the "Virtual Memory" button. Check that the radio button next to "Let Windows manage my virtual memory setting (Recommended)" is ticked. Let me know what you find.

Wannabe1,

Alright, he did what you said last night and this was it said:

320.0 mb of ram
70% free

Also, this is exactly what the error says:

Scan disk (or whatever he tries to do) could not continue because your computer doesnt have enough available memory, if any other programs are running, quit one or more of them and then try running scan disk again.

Any solutions? I am sorry to keep bothering you like this.

No bother, cherished79... :whistling:

Have him run scandisk from Safe Mode and see if it will complete. Let me know how it goes.

Wannabe1,

Alright, he was able to defrag and then when finished he restarted his computer normally (not in safe mode) and he got 2 errors

The MSVCP60.dll file is linked to missing export MSVCRT.dll (snake looking symbol) - 1c-collate-cp

The other was

A necessary file could not be loaded
C:\program\norton~1\NIstray.dll

after getting past those two he went online and was on ebay. I am thinking this error is regarding pop ups.

Your current security setting prohibits running active x controls on this page, as a result the page may not display correctly.

Would it be best if he just wiped out the entire computer. theres not import info or anything. the computer is used for recreational purposes. Someone offered him a disk that clears the computer. What is your opinion?

Thanks,
Carissa

Is your dad running MS Office and Norton on the machine? If yes, we should be able to take care of these errors pretty easily.

The ActiveX error is a setting in Internet Options. If he is not running IE6.0, he should download it from Microsoft and install it. If he already has it, have him open Internet Explorer, click on "Tools" on the toolbar, and select "Internet Options". Click on the "Security" tab, then on the "Internet" icon. Click on the "Advanced Level" button and set the settings as in the first column HERE.

wannabe1,

Sorry that it took so long for me to get back to you. I have been on vacation.
He did the Active X thing you told him to do and things seem to be going well.

Thanks again for all your help.........You're great!

Have a great day,

Carissa
