i found what it is on the toshiba site...it seems to be a quick boot menu...to choose what device to boot from ("three cds" =hd,"one cd"= cd rom,"floppy" =floppy, "papers "=network)

can you borrow someone's xp disk ? (the same version as the one that was originally installed i.e. home or pro, service pack 1 or service pack 2)
