Format C: drive-move necessary files to Slave

Hi, i want to format my C: drive, so ive started moving all the files to my 2nd hard drive i want to keep, i just dont know what to move so i have windows on the second hard drive so that i can make the second hd the master and boot windows from that. I dont have my XP disk so i cant just install it. Can somone please tell me wich files i need, and how to get them onto my 2nd drive. Thanks

no one hd doesnt have xp, i wanna transer Windows from my master to my slave

should itry making a backup of the files i want on the c: drive, and the windows folder and then restoring it onto the E?

If only it were that easy... :whistling:

It can be done, but you'll need to make an image of the drive. To do that you will need a program like Paragon. Windows has a pretty good backup program of it's own, but it's not capable of what you want.

so theres no way to just copy windows from one hd to another?
like i cant just backup the windows folder and put restore it onto the e drive?

Nope...sorry.

You might check on the HDD manufacturer's website. Sometime their Software will have the ability to do that. I know Maxtor does on MaxBlast4, but it doesn't work real well on brands other than Maxtor.

yes, there is...he told you you need to create a disk image of the primary drive to the secondary drive.

He linked you to paragon, plus there is Norton Ghost, or Acronis True Image.

There is also the system rescue cd

which has the partimage program

The last is free, but it requires a little more work since it is linux based.

i have a norton systemworks layin around it should have ghost will it tell me how to do it or will i still need help from you guys, and sorry for the misunderstanding i ment no free way to do it? but ill try to use ghost

system works did not necessarily come with ghost.
