The recovery cd you used to restore your machine was from a model different enough that you have a miriad of incorrect drivers installed. At this point, the best option is to contact eMachines and get the correct recovery disk for your machine. Then do a complete (destructive) recovery.

Go ahead and start backing up what data you can.

Have you been able to contact eMachines for the correct recovery cd?

Cool!

Do you have the files you need backed up to removable media?

All I really care about are my e-bay pictures and I haven't had much luck with that. I tried moving them to a photo gallery like Kodak and Yahoo but wouldn't go. Guess I'll just have to live without them. :whistling:

Maybe try zipping them before uploading. Do you use Yahoo Briefcase? That might be an option, too.

Will zipping them protect them?

Not if they are on the same drive we'll be installing on. Zipping will make them easier to move on the internet, though. I store a lot of my important stuff in my Yahoo Briefcase...can you burn them to a cd?

This time I was able to move a lot of my pix to Yahoo. No, I couldn't burn them to a cd. I guess I'm ready to give the restore cd a try.

Ok...here we go...again. :whistling:

put the recovery cd in the machine and restart. It should boot to the cd. Follow the prompts for a complete or "destructive" recovery. Or a fresh install if the option is presented.

Have the product key handy...

If you run into problems, post back...I'll be wandering around here somewhere.
