password protecting a netword hard drive

I have a hard drive that i have all the back up copies of my software(the expensive ones) like publisher , office xp, mcafee and stuff like that but i dont want other people being able to access it other then me and the people i give the password to. How do i put a password on it so like i can access it on the computer the hard drive is connect to but then also be able to connect from my laptop to it to access it and still be able to get in it??

please help
