:whistling: I have received an email from someone in Japan. (it is [email protected] address)
When I reply I am constantly getting a delivery failure message. I have tried cutting and pasting the address, choosing reply from the menu and even using different browsers such as Crazy Browser, Explorer and Opera. On Google searching the docomo name I can't seem to locate a docomo.ne.jp type address. Any help would be much appreciated as we met this guy when on holiday there and I would like very much to stay in contact with him.

hello and welcome to geekstogo,
i'm sry but theres nothing you can really do unless you can contact him some other way. His inbox may be full and lets hope that it'll be emptied, this is really the only problem that you could be facing here, viewing the methodes that you have used.
Good luck

"Docomo" is the mobile telephone company there, that explains why his inbox is limited and probably full.

just one thing to add from what i said last time, if you are sending photo's to him as it sounds that you may be doing so, remove them from the e-mail and just send text. See if this works because attachements may be to large to do on his storage, or large attachements anyways i should say.
thanx

Thanks guys, I guess the mailbox full scenario is possible although this is the message I am getting...

The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Unknown user [email protected]'

Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected]
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure)
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'Unknown user [email protected]' (delivery attempts: 0)
Reporting-MTA: dns; customer-domains.icp-qv1-irony4.iinet.net.au

There are no attachments involved, only a small paragraph of standard text (maybe 2kb), what is interesting though is that on my inbox it shows the message as being 966 kb, I wonder if the fact that he probably wrote it in Japanese and then translated it has anything to do with it.
As I mentioned I have tried just clicking on reply, manually typing in the address and several different browsers. My ISP tech support said sometimes if people have a different reply path on their email (to prevent spam) it could explain it.
Maybe one of you guys might like to try his address and see what happens. If you get through let him know (Yoshi) what is going on.
Thanks heaps.

Just to make sure that for some silly reason she hasn't blocked your mail her end by accident, have you tried sending that mail from a friend with a different server, your mail address might be missinterpreted as spam her end, either by your username or the server bit so if you are @yahoo. , go @hotmail.

Good luck

One thing you have to understand about Japan is that most of the islands are covered by wireless networks, and that people use phones for messaging more often than computers. The US is at least 2-3 years behind them usage wise, and its really quite hard to imagine interativite on the level that they enjoy.

Mail may not be hitting because your client may not support sending Email to cell phones, especially since in Japan cell phones opperate in a different manner than in the US, both frequency and software.

they still use standard email protocols as the email being sent is ACTUALLy being sent to a mail server (docomo's mail server in this instance) then sent to the phone from there...so if there were any format conversion it would be done by the mail server before it even got to the phone

Numeric Code: 5.1.0

Possible Cause: This code indicates a general categorizer-based failure (bad address failure). An e-mail address or other attribute could not be found in the directory. This issue may occur if contact entries do not have the targetAddress attribute set. This issue occurs most frequently when MDAccess receives "object not found" errors from DSAccess when the Categorizer is doing the homeMDB lookup on a user.

This issue also occurs if you used Microsoft Outlook to save your e-mail message as a file and someone opens and replies to this message offline. The message property only preserves the legacyExchangeDN when Outlook delivers the message. Therefore, the homeMDB lookup may fail.

Troubleshooting: Verify the recipient address and resend the message. Verify that the recipient address is formatted correctly and that the categorizer was able to correctly resolve the recipient.

it seems like a bad address...or a dns issue maybe...

for the smtp error its - 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable (E.g., mailbox not found, no access)

and

Numeric Code: 5.0.0

First Available: All numeric codes that were first available with Exchange 2000 Service Pack 1 (4.3.2, 5.4.0, 5.4.4, and 5.5.0) were classified as 5.0.0 in Exchange 2000 Service Pack 1 and earlier.

Possible Causes:• There is no route for the specified address space. For example, an SMTP connector is configured, but this address does not match.
• DNS returned an authoritative host that was not found for the domain.
• The routing group does not have a connector defined. Mail from one server in one routing group does not have a route to another routing group.
• An SMTP protocol error occurred.
Troubleshooting:1. Correct the address space, or add an address space of type SMTP with asterisk (*) value to one or more SMTP connectors.
2. Verify that DNS is working correctly.
3. Make sure that the routing groups have connectors that connect them.
4. If you are running Exchange 2000 without Service Pack 1, apply Service Pack 1 to help determine the actual issue.

for the 5.0.0 error...

ALL of these errors are RECIEVING side errors not sending side errors

Thanks anyway guys, I had previously tried from a hotmail address, no luck. I am in Australia I don't think that would matter though. I assume he has a docomo email account (pc based as opposed to mobile phone)... they are an ISP as well aren't they? Thanks for all your help in any event.
