I recently encountered a problem with my laptop. I believe there is a hidden program on the desktop, possibly a virus. 2 times I have seen a "ghost" (lasting a few seconds & transparent) of a large (approx 3"L X 2"H) undiscernable icon appear on the desktop. If I rightclick on the desktop wallpaper, I do NOT get the "Arrange Icons By...Properties" Menu. Rather, I get the hourglass for 1-2 minutes, during which time the computer temporarily locks-up. After the hourglass returns to the cursor arrow, the computer seems to function OK. Sometimes however, the hourglass will not clear. If I try to turn the computer off with the power switch while the hourglass is shown, it will not turn off. I have to remove the power cord and battery to shut it down. I have scanned my computer for virus and spyware with Computer Associates EZ Trust software, but found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
