I have no sound ,i tried to update my drivers but it doesnt need it and i lost my drivers disc. its driving me nuts can you help?

Right click "My Computer" and choose "Properties". Click the "Hardware" tab and then the "Device Manager" button. Do you see any yellow ? or ! ?

If you do not have the original drivers cd, then I would download a this free program that once installed, shows up all the parts on the comp and those marked in blue mean that either they are using not the true driver, or not working because they have no driver, those in black have the right driver. Click on the part's blue line and it opens two options via Internet: makers link site, and direct download of driver, - click on direct down load, if no joy, makers link,

press; winflag botton with R botton
type; devmgmt.msc
press; enter
goto those drivers marked in yellow
righthandclick; uninstall
top of window press; action
press; scan for new material
if it finds it OK
if it doesn't browse to correct folder
press; enter and pray

i dont have the disc i lost it when i moved. and no id ont see any yellow or !

In Device Manger, click on the + by "Sound, video, and game controllers. Make note of your sound device.

Open Control Panel and double-click on the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon.

Under the "Sounds" tab, select "Windows default" in the Sounds Scheme drop down menu.

Under the "Audio" tab, make sure that your Sound device is listed in the top two sections...if not, select it from the drop down menu.

Under the "Voice" tab, make sure the Your Sound device is listed in both boxes...if not, select it.

Under the "Volume" tab, put a tick in the box to "Place volume icon in the taskbar".

Click "Apply" and then "Ok".

Now look down by the clock...is there a little speaker there? If yes, double-click on it and make sure there is not a tick in the box next to "Mute" and that the Volume sliders are all set to at least halfway.

Reboot

Sound?

yes and its not muted and all the volumes are all the way up

Click Start, then Run, and type services.msc...click "Ok".

Scroll down the list to Windows Audio. Under "Status", is it Started?

Has the sound ever worked on this machine? If so...how long has it not been working? Had you installed any new hardware or software just prior to losing the sound?

yes it did, and its been a couple months since it worked..........i did get a trojan downloader around the same time it stopped working. is that the prob?

That would be my first thought.

Let's try one more thing. If this doesn't work, I'll send you over to the Malware Forum and see if they can spot anything in there that might be causing this.

Download the attached file and extract it to your desktop. Right click on the extracted file and choose "Merge". Accept the change.

Reboot and see if you have sound.
