Hey there paleoemcee, welcome to Geeks To Go Forums.
This would require you to open your computer. When opening your computer make sure its off.
When you have opened your computer, un-plug all IDE cables, and make sure your Primary Hard Drive is set to "master" and the optical to "salve". Re-plug the IDE cables in and boot up, see if the problem persists.
Cool

Thanks for responding
i should have specified that I have a laptop. I took my hard drive out and put it back in. I then got a message that says:
0 hard disk failure
Primary hard disk drive not found
No bootable...etc.
However this time I went into my BIOS and now the BIOS recognizes the existence of both the hard drive and the cd drive. Now what should I do?
