Hi i have a serious problem with my windows, i booted up this morning after everything was working fine last night and all the .exe files on my desktop had turned from Icons to just files as if the extension was wrong (am i making sense??) when i click it windows asks me if i would like to search the web to find the appropriate program ??

on my "start menu" this is also the case i cannot use anything! in "all programs" the folders are visible but the files are the same as on the desktop!!! i cannot even system restore! i have recently been having problems with spyware (SurfSideKick 3) which i thought i had managed to cure! here is a log from hijack this..
*note* this is taken from safe mode as it wont load into windows normally!! the PC also performs a check disc to check the consistancy of my disk ??

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and post your log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
